Job description

Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence (BBBSI) is seeking a Program Manager to lead POWER Up, our in-school mentoring program based at Benjamin Franklin Elementary. This role involves supervising and coaching a team of Lead Mentors, each supporting up to 50 middle school students through one-on-one and group mentoring. The Manager will oversee daily operations to ensure high-quality service delivery, focusing on fostering positive development and success among participating youth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Leadership & Management:
    • Supervise on-site mentoring, ensuring compliance with BBBSI and school policies.
    • Coach Lead Mentors through observations, 1:1 meetings, and planning sessions.
    • Facilitate training and communication among BBBSI, school staff, and partners.
  2. Program Coordination:
    • Manage youth enrollment and match assignments.
    • Oversee program logistics and scheduling of mentoring sessions.
    • Ensure fidelity of program implementation and provide excellent customer service.
  3. Progress Monitoring & Support:
    • Review dashboards, reports, and survey results to inform continuous improvement.
    • Oversee Parent/Guardian Match Support Contacts and complete Big and Little Match Support Contacts.
    • Engage informally with youth and utilize data and observations for ongoing improvement.
    • Complete youth applications, enrollment, and survey data.
  4. Partnership Engagement:
    • Build and maintain relationships with school leadership, staff, and partners.
    • Participate in monthly check-ins with school leadership to gather and implement feedback.
    • Facilitate regular site visits that respect Littles and meet stakeholder needs.
Requirements

High School Diploma with at least 6 years of relevant experience in social work, counseling, social services, child development, or education. Prior experience working in classrooms or coaching is strongly preferred. An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.

Skills and Professional Requirements
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in human services or teaching, ideally in a Middle School setting.
  • At least 3+ years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Passion for youth development and alignment with BBBSI’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Shared lived experience with Littles is a plus.
  • Experience in education, coaching, or paraprofessional roles, preferably with Middle School students.
  • Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and Haitian Creole, are highly valued.
  • Ability to motivate diverse groups and work with racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse communities.
  • Excellent listening, organizational, and flexible thinking skills; capable of working in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.
  • Strong understanding of child development and family dynamics.
  • Effective case management and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with school staff, families, and youth based on youth development principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems (Salesforce preferred).
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Work Environment

This position is based at an assigned school within the Philadelphia School District. Attendance at BBBSI headquarters is required when school is not in session and as needed. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, aligned with school hours.
