Job summary

Child and Family Focus, in partnership with DCIU, seeks a School Based Behavioral Technician for Aston Education Center and The County Alternative High School in Media, PA. The role runs 7:30am–3:00pm, Monday–Friday, during a 10‑month school year with potential continuation.

You will work with the CFF and DCIU teams to apply trauma‑informed behavioral strategies to support students.

Qualifications

  • Must have a relevant human services degree or nursing plus direct care experience with children/adolescents.
  • Alternative paths include a second bachelor’s degree with direct care experience, or an associate degree plus three years of direct care work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1-to-1 support to the child within the school setting using behavioral interventions.
  • Support problem-solving and skill development for the child, youth, or young adult.
  • Instruct on understanding and managing emotions and behaviors.
  • Assist with stress-reduction techniques and improve social skills.
  • Collaborate with the CFF and DCIU teams and document service delivery.
  • Submit required proof of service and billing documentation timely.
  • Participate in monthly group supervision and trauma-informed care practices.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, sociology, education, criminal justice, or another related human services field
Licensed registered nurse (RN) plus one year direct care experience with children/adolescents
Bachelor’s degree in another field plus one year direct care experience with children/adolescents
Associate’s degree or 60 credits toward a bachelor’s degree plus three years direct care experience

Job description

Child and Family Focus has partnered with DCIU to provide intensive behavioral and mental health supports to students placed in DCIU Aston Education Center, and The County Alternative High School (TCA). The position of the School Based Behavioral Technician will work with the CFF team as well as DCIU teachers and staff in the classrooms to facilitate behavioral management and modification techniques. This position will work along with the students identified behavioral plans in an effort to decrease identified challenging behaviors. This is a 10‑month position. The school day work hours are 7:30am‑3pm M‑F.

Note that this position is for the 2026–2027 school year, with the opportunity to continue employment for the following school years.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, sociology, education, criminal justice, or another related human services field.
  • OR a licensed registered nurse PLUS one (1) year verified full‑time paid experience working in direct care with children/adolescents.
  • OR a bachelor’s degree in another field PLUS one (1) year verified full‑time paid experience working in direct care with children/adolescents.
  • OR an associate’s degree or sixty (60) credits toward a bachelor’s degree PLUS three (3) years verified full‑time paid work experience working in direct care with children/adolescents.
Job Responsibilities
  • Provide 1‑to‑1 support to the child, as well as educational team support, to address the therapeutic needs of the child, youth, or young adult using behavioral interventions and strategies outlined in the student’s behavioral plan in the school setting.
  • Support problem‑solving and skill development of the child, youth, or young adult.
  • Instruct children on how to understand, direct, interpret, manage, and control feelings and emotional responses to situations.
  • Support the development of improved decision‑making skills to manage behavior.
  • Assist with the development of social skills and socially acceptable behaviors.
  • Instruct on stress‑reduction techniques.
  • Collect behavioral data.
  • Collaborate with team members including, but not limited to, the CFF school‑based outpatient team at DCIU, CFF school‑based behavioral health team, DCIU administrators and educators, outside service providers, and parents/caregivers.
  • Consult and obtain supervision biweekly.
  • Submit necessary proof of service delivery and billing documentation within the required timeframe.
  • Document case activity using an EMR system within the required timeframe.
  • Participate in group supervisions monthly.
  • Use and implement the five core values of trauma‑informed care in all work practices – safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
  • Work within a school setting at DCIU Aston Education Center and The County Alternative High School.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Pay rate of $18–$18.50 per hour.
  • Paid summers off.
  • Additional pay for ESY summer hours worked.
