Job summary

Qualifications

Knowledge of fundamental principles, methods and techniques for evaluating students' hearing.
Understanding of etiology, psychology, problems and needs of students with hearing losses.
Knowledge of speech and language development in students with hearing losses and their relation to personality and emotions.
Skill in speech reading and auditory training techniques.
Skill in selecting and evaluating amplification systems and audiological equipment.

Responsibilities

Examine students with ear, hearing or balance problems.
Assess exam results and diagnose the student.
Provide interpretation of audiological test results for IEP team recommendations.
Select and fit appropriate classroom amplification.
Monitor progress of students with hearing loss and adjust as needed.
Determine best course of treatment considering educational needs.
Participate in IEP team decisions regarding student needs.
Counsel students, staff and families on listening and communication methods.
Evaluate and follow up on student condition and developments.
Consult with school staff and family about hearing loss and education access.
Educate students on preventing hearing loss.
