Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools is seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to assist hearing impaired students in mainstream classrooms. The successful candidate will provide voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpretation, supporting the learning experience under the guidance of classroom teachers.

This role requires fluency in ASL, relevant certifications, and the ability to handle various responsibilities effectively within a flexible schedule. Benefits include health insurance and retirement eligibility based on hours worked.

Qualifications

• Certification by the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) required.
• Ability to lift and move moderately sized objects up to 50 pounds.
• Regular attendance to carry out duties effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assist hearing impaired students by interpreting lessons taught by teachers.
• Serve as a positive role model and treat all individuals respectfully.
• Drive between schools to address student needs as required.

Skills

Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)

Demonstrated interview skills

Knowledge of the Code of Ethics for interpreters

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Graduation from an Interpreter Training Program

Thirty (30) semester credits or Forty-five (45) quarter credits from an accredited institution
