Job summary

Young World Physical Education is seeking an ASL Interpreter (Level II) for Vancouver Public Schools. This position is critical for supporting hearing impaired students in mainstream classrooms and ensuring effective communication using American Sign Language.

The role involves flexibility and teamwork while providing interpretation services in various school settings. Competitive salary range of $30.93 to $36.35 hourly is offered, with further benefits for eligible employees.

Qualifications

• Fluency in ASL, both voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice.
• Certified by the EIPA or National Interpreting Certification.
• Graduated from an Interpreter Training Program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist hearing impaired students in mainstream classrooms using ASL.
• Work cooperatively with teachers and support staff.
• Provide communication support during regular classes and extracurricular activities.

Skills

Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)

Knowledge of Code of Ethics specific to interpreters

Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds

Education

High school degree or equivalent

Thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter credits from accredited institution

Certified by Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
