Healthy Kids Programs is hiring a School-Age Childcare Assistant for our Before and After School Programs at Marian E. McKeown Elementary School in Newton, NJ for the 2026–2027 school year.

This part-time, non-exempt role follows the school calendar with morning and/or afternoon shifts. Responsibilities include activities from the Healthy Kids Curriculum, creating a safe and engaging environment, assisting with homework, and supervising children aged 5–12.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and/or 1 year of childcare experience preferred but not required.
• Candidates must pass all state background checks.
• Ability to meet physical demands, including bending, stretching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and engaging with energetic children.
• Positive, professional demeanor with strong interpersonal skills when working with children and families.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate hands-on activities from the Healthy Kids Curriculum (fitness, STEAM, academic, art, and homework).
• Provide a safe, healthy, and engaging environment and be a positive role model for children.
• Observe state guidelines and program/host school policies.
• Some positions may perform attendance, registration, and staffing duties.

LOCATION: Marian E. McKeown Elementary School in Newton, NJ

PAY: $16.00 per hour

SCHEDULE: Follows the school calendar

Morning Program: 7:00 - 8:15 am

Afternoon Program: 3:00 - 6:00 pm

Position Responsibilities

The Before and After School Program team is responsible for:

• Facilitating hands-on activities following the Healthy Kids Curriculum which includes fitness, STEAM, academic, art, and other group activities as well as homework completion.
• Providing a safe, healthy, and fun environment and acting as a positive role model for children in the program.
• Observing state guidelines, Healthy Kids Extended Day Program policies, and host school policies.
• Certain positions may also perform management functions such as accurate attendance records, registration, and staffing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma and/or 1 year of childcare experience preferred but not required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Candidates must successfully pass all required state background checks.
• Requires the ability to meet physical demands, including bending, stretching, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds, and actively engaging with energetic children.
• The ideal candidate demonstrates a positive, professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills when working with children, families, and colleagues, along with a consistent record of reliability and punctuality.
