Job Description

Title: School Age Child Care (SACC) Program Assistant

Reports To: SACC Director

Employment Status : Regular, Part-Time

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position Summary:

Supports the daily operation of the School Age Child Care program by supervising and engaging students in a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment. Assists with activities, routines, behavior support, attendance and program records, family communication, facility organization, and compliance with district and applicable childcare requirements.

Essential Functions
  • Assist the Team Leader with planning, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate recreational, educational, social-emotional, enrichment, and physical activities.
  • Actively supervise students at all times, including during indoor and outdoor activities, transitions, arrival, dismissal, meals, restroom routines, field trips, and other program activities.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, inclusive, and welcoming environment that promotes student belonging, engagement, cooperation, and positive relationships.
  • Follow student-specific behavior-support strategies and program behavior policies consistently, fairly, and respectfully.
  • Apply developmentally appropriate guidance, redirection, conflict-resolution, and de-escalation strategies; report significant behavioral or safety concerns to the Team Leader or SACC Director.
  • Assist with attendance, sign-in and sign-out procedures, student records, incident reports, supply records, communication logs, and other required program documentation.
  • Communicate promptly with the Team Leader regarding student attendance, health or safety concerns, behavior, injuries, family communication, and other matters affecting program operations.
  • Interact professionally and respectfully with students, families, school staff, visitors, and community members while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Work cooperatively with principals, teachers, custodians, office staff, the SACC Director, Team Leaders, and other district personnel.
  • Assist with maintaining a consistent daily schedule, established routines, and orderly transitions for program participants.
  • Maintain program spaces, tables, storage areas, equipment, and materials in a clean, organized, safe, and functional condition.
  • Assist with snack preparation and cleanup in accordance with program procedures, food-safety requirements, and applicable allergy or health information.
  • Complete required training and follow all applicable district, program, health, safety, emergency, supervision, and confidentiality procedures.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Arrive prepared and on time for assigned shifts and review the day’s schedule, student information, activities, and responsibilities.
  • Maintain a professional appearance consistent with SACC policy and the responsibilities of the position.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating honesty, respect, responsibility, patience, inclusiveness, and professionalism.
  • Maintain a safe and secure program environment, including appropriate supervision of entrances, exits, transitions, and student movement.
  • Keep program areas, tables, storage areas, and equipment clean, organized, and ready for use.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with parents and guardians regarding routine program matters and refer concerns to the Team Leader or SACC Director as appropriate.
  • Follow applicable state childcare requirements and Marysville Schools policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the SACC Director or designated program supervisor.
Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with school-aged children or in a childcare, youth-program, education, recreation, or related setting preferred.
  • Ability to complete and maintain required training and certifications, including communicable-disease prevention, child-abuse recognition and reporting, first aid, CPR, and other program-designated training.
  • Ability to meet all applicable state, district, and position-specific employment requirements.

  • Knowledge of the developmental, social-emotional, recreational, and supervision needs of school-aged children.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to children’s individual needs, abilities, interests, behavior, and communication styles.
  • Ability to actively supervise children, maintain appropriate ratios and line-of-sight supervision, and respond promptly to safety concerns.

Working Conditions
  • Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissues, communicable illnesses, allergens, and other materials encountered in a school-aged childcare environment; required safety and protective procedures must be followed.
  • Frequent interaction with children who may be energetic, upset, anxious, frustrated, or in need of individualized behavioral, social-emotional, or developmental support.
  • Occasional interaction with parents, guardians, staff, or community members who may be upset, distressed, or confrontational.
  • Work in indoor and outdoor environments and exposure to varying temperatures, weather conditions, noise, active play, and sports or recreational equipment.
  • Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, run, talk, hear, see, read, reach, stretch, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and move throughout program areas while actively supervising children.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of supplies, equipment, activity materials, or other items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • May be required to work at different district school locations or attend training, meetings, or program activities outside the regular assignment schedule, as directed.
Conditions of Employment
  • Length of Employment: One-year limited contract.
  • Salary: In accordance with the current SACC salary schedule, with placement determined by applicable experience and training.
  • Fringe Benefits: Not applicable, unless otherwise provided under district policy or the applicable employee classification.
  • Employment Requirements: Must complete the required background screening, obtain and maintain required certifications and training, and meet all applicable state, district, and program employment requirements.

Salary: $13.96 to $17.99 Per Hour
