Eastern NC School for the Deaf seeks a School Educator I to provide academic instruction for deaf and hard of hearing students in a residential setting, using the students’ primary mode of communication. You will implement curricula and document progress under supervisor guidance.

Provide academic instruction for students who are deaf and hard of hearing in their primary mode of communication within a residential education setting.
Direct instructions will be provided as needed by the supervisor verbally or in writing. The supervisor will conduct regular evaluations of employee performance and provide feedback on areas of excellence and /or weakness. An employee growth plan shall be developed and reviewed periodically to address areas of weakness or concern regarding job performance and/or student progress. Staff development opportunities will be provided.

Responsibility for daily supervision is by the academic program supervisor and/or School Director. Goals are established through the Individual Growth Plan. Routine and daily assignments are made orally and in writing by the supervisor. Policies, procedures, and directives established by and for the Eastern N.C. School for the Deaf will be adhered to.
Daily contact with parents (when necessary) concerning scheduled meetings, concerns, behavioral issues, and needs of children
Daily contact with other teachers/assistants concerning student records and/or data
Contact with guests of the school and government officials (when necessary)
Effective sign language skills, receptive and expressive, in order to communicate with deaf students, employees, parents, and visitors
Ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and tactfully with all people
Employee must have dexterity skills to use sign language
Employee must have mobility and endurance to keep up with students and their movements around campus
Employee must have mobility and the endurance to get down on and up off the floor with children if applicable and necessary
Must have mobility and the ability to assist children with hygiene needs if applicable and necessary

Employee must have vision (with or without correction) within the normal functioning range for the purpose of reading and understanding sign language and for the purpose of supervising children.
Employee must have the ability to express one’s intent as well as instruct others through the use of sign language.
Employee must have dexterity skills to use sign language.
Employee is responsible for ensuring students is safety at all times in all situations
