Job summary

Baylor College of Medicine's Gastroenterology & Hepatology division seeks an enthusiastic procedure scheduler to arrange outpatient GI procedures at the McNair Campus. You will educate patients and guide them through the procedure journey using BCM and BSLMC EMR.

Responsibilities

• Schedules GI procedures in BCM and BSLMC EPIC, assuring that every referred patient will have a procedure date scheduled.
• Contacts patients for instruction before the procedures and notify patient of date/time/arrival time.
• Requests additional information from referring physicians.
• Verifies insurance for new and established patients.
• Works closely with general GI care coordination team to fill endoscopy block.
• Works on order work queue to select orders and schedule patients.
• Works closely with MD for any patient special instructions, including procedure locations and clearances.
• Performs cross-checks for procedural or scheduling conflicts to ensure accuracy of exam.
• Acquires clinical notes as needed prior to exam.

Summary

The section of Gastroenterology & Hepatology is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and procedure scheduler to schedule Gastroenterology general GI outpatient procedures. The position requires patient education and navigation through the patient's journey, including preparing patients for the procedure the procedure and scheduling the procedure with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) & Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center (BSLMC) EMR. The candidate will work closely with physicians and procedure schedule. The candidate will work Monday - Friday, 8hrs daily. The ideal candidate will be organized, motivated and passionate about providing excellent customer service to out patients.

This position is located at our McNair Campus.

Job Duties

• Schedules GI procedures in BCM and BSLMC EPIC, assuring that every referred patient will have a procedure date scheduled.
• Contacts patients for instruction before the procedures and notify patient of date/time/arrival time.
• Requests additional information from referring physicians.
• Verifies insurance for new and established patients.
• Works closely with general GI care coordination team to fill endoscopy block.
• Works on order work queue to select orders and schedule patients.
• Works closely with MD for any patient special instructions, including procedure locations and clearances.
• Performs cross-checks for procedural or scheduling conflicts to ensure accuracy of exam.
• Acquires clinical notes as needed prior to exam.
• Maintains confidentiality of passwords/codes for all information systems and patient information, as observed by supervisor.
• Verifies and confirms patient identification and patient information including patient precautions and other vital information on all documentation, as observed by supervisor.
• Communicates in an appropriate manner as outlines in the patient care manual.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Scheduling experience.
• EPIC experience.
