Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
• 2 years of medical clerical experience; preferably in a hospital central scheduling or physician office scheduling setting.
• Medical terminology is required.
• Excellent organizational, human relations and communication skills.
• Proficient with office software and computerized scheduling systems.
• Ability to maintain accurate statistical records, data gathering and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Receives physician orders and verifies insurance; obtains preauthorizations and per-certifications.
• Schedules patients for treatments or diagnostic procedures using scheduling systems; resolves conflicts.
• Enters patient information into scheduling system and maintains current records; prepares charts and files.
• Distributes educational materials to patients and families; answers questions or forwards to clinical staff.
• Provides administrative support to the assigned unit as needed.
