Job summary

Evergreen Roadworks in Urbana, IL is seeking a Scalehouse Clerk to support plant operations and the billing department. You will weigh inbound and outbound trucks, issue load tickets, and maintain records for billing, inventory, and compliance.

This seasonal, hourly role reports to the Operations Manager and requires strong data entry, attention to detail, and customer service. A pre-employment drug screen and high school diploma are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred 1+ year in scalehouse, dispatch, shipping/receiving, or similar clerical role.
• Familiarity with scale/ticketing software and DOT weight regulations.

Responsibilities

• Weighs all inbound and outbound trucks for the site using truck scales and scale management software.
• Creates and issues load tickets for each pickup, accurately capturing essential information.
• Scans and files daily tickets; maintains daily logs of material shipped and received and reconciles at the end of each shift.
• Submits all daily cash sales for the site.
• Reports scale malfunctions promptly.
• Enters and updates data for billing, inventory tracking, and production reporting as requested.
• Responds professionally to inquiries by phone, email, radio, or in person; redirects calls as necessary.
• Ensures health and safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times, including wearing all prescribed PPE.

The Scalehouse Clerk is a support partner to plant operations and the billing department at our Urbana, IL location. As the first point of contact for trucks entering and leaving the facility, this position operates truck scales and scale software to weigh loads, issue accurate tickets, and maintain the records that support billing, inventory, and compliance. This is a seasonal, hourly, non-union position reporting to the Operations Manager.

• Weighs all inbound and outbound trucks for the site using truck scales and scale management software
• Creates and issues load tickets for each pickup, accurately capturing essential information

Education Qualifications

• Required High School or Equivalent

Experience Qualifications

• Preferred 1+ year of experience in a scalehouse, dispatch, shipping/receiving, or similar clerical role
• Preferred Experience in highway construction, aggregates, asphalt, or a plant environment
• Preferred Familiarity with scale/ticketing software and DOT weight regulations

Skills and Abilities

• Basic computer skills, including data entry (alpha and 10-key) in accounting system
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy with numbers and records
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritize during high-volume periods
• Ability to work early mornings, extended hours, and some weekends during peak season
• Must be able to work with a team, take direction, follow work rules, and take on additional job responsibilities as needed or assigned
• Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid driver’s license Preferred

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

• Ability to work in both a scalehouse/office and plant/yard environment, including exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, and windy conditions caused by weather, moving traffic, noise, dust, fumes, mechanical and heavy equipment
• Indoor conditions that include standard office equipment such as computers, printer/scanner, phone, radio, and filing cabinets
• Sits at desk/computer for long periods of time
• Walks around the plant and gets in and out of vehicles; occasionally stoops, bends, kneels, and lifts up to 25 lbs
• Travel is not expected; some local job site travel may occur
