Job summary

Steel Technologies LLC, Mishawaka, Indiana, is seeking a Scale Operator to tag finished goods, weigh, record data, and ensure proper packaging for shipment. You will input data into the AS 400 system, verify tag accuracy against sales orders, and assist with production balance and documentation.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, basic computer skills, and the ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Overtime may be required to meet orders.

  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and AS/400 data entry.
  • Ability to use tape measures, micrometers and calipers.
  • Lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Tag finished goods and ensure correct packaging and documentation.
  • Weigh packages and enter data into the AS-400 system.
  • Instruct pack-line on packing according to sales orders.
  • Inspect packages for material, size, ID and weight.
  • Balance production at end of order.
  • Audit flow of materials to storage and office.

Job description

As a Scale Operator at Steel Technologies, you are responsible for accurately tagging finished goods that have been packaged and are ready for shipment. Strong attention to detail is imperative to this role as it is up to you to ensure finished goods are appropriately packaged, weighed, measured and recorded. You’ll be responsible for helping Steel Technologies succeed by preparing items for shipment to our customers and ensuring their expectations are met. Essentially, you play a big part in getting the finished material into the right hands at the right time, the right way.

The regular hours for this position are Tuesday to Friday 5:00 am to 3:00pm (when overtime is required, OT hours will be added to Monday)

How you’ll contribute to our company:
  • Instruct and assist pack-line on proper packing instructions according to sales order
  • Instruct flow of packaged material to scales
  • Inspect packages to ensure proper material, size, identification, packaging, sample if required, and weight
  • Weigh package and enter into AS 400 system, generate tag and document on order ensuring accuracy of entry and documentation
  • Compare tag to sales order to ensure accuracy and full information
  • Balance production at end of order
  • Document and breakdown production as required
  • Account for all material and production flow to office at completion
  • Control flow to and from scales to storage
  • Perform routine inventory of tagging and packaging supplies
  • Check scales daily for accuracy

Here’s what is needed to be successful:
  • A high school diploma or GED with at least one year of industrial or manufacturing experience is preferred
  • Ability to follow all order instructions and complete documentation
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, ability to accurately track and input data in AS 400 system
  • Ability to use tape measures, micrometers, and calipers
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
