Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. is hiring a General Laborer at our Detroit, MI location.

This role supports scrap processing operations, handling materials, operating basic equipment, and maintaining safe, clean work areas to meet production goals. Responsibilities include loading and unloading, sorting metals, assisting with equipment maintenance, following safety rules, and communicating effectively with team members and drivers on site.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Able to read, write and perform basic math.
• Experience operating mobile equipment preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work cooperatively with others.
• Able to work in dusty, dirty, and extreme climate conditions.
• Pre-Employment background, physical, and hair drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to safety standards and wear PPE.
• Load and unload materials from storage, production areas, docks, or vehicles.
• Sort recycled materials to separate high-grade metals and remove non-conforming items.
• Operate and maintain mobile equipment (forklifts, skid steers, etc.).
• Perform tasks using hand tools and power tools as needed.
• Identify scrap grades and material types and note undesirable elements.
• Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles as required.
• Keep plant equipment clean and assist with maintenance.

Summary of Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), remove hazards asidentified, andmaintaincleanliness of the site.
• Load and unload materials from storage,productionareas, docks, delivery vehicles,staging areas,or containers using mobile equipment or by hand.
• Sort a variety of recycled materials and metals to separate out high-grade metals andremovesany non-conforming metals.
• Operate&maintainmobile equipment including but not limited to forklifts, skid steers, streetsweeper, and/or water trucks.
• Perform tasks involving physical labor using tools, including but not limited to standard hand tools, torch, bander, chop saw, alligator shear, sawzall, and wire snips.
• Identifyscrapincludingthe grade and type of material and any undesirable elements within the material.
• Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles asrequired.
• Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping.
• Assistsmechanics in the maintenance of equipment including plant equipment.
• Interacts with customers or drivers to direct orassistthem.
• Performs other general laborer tasks asrequired.
