Job summary

Alter Trading Corporation is a 127-year-old industry leader in scrap metal processing with facilities across the Midwest and South. This on-site role covers yard operations, recording weights, metal sorting, and cashiering duties at the cash window and scale.

You will verify vehicles, process customer payments, maintain records, and support safety and daily operations. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, with math and communication skills key to success.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Visually verify inbound/outbound vehicles on scale deck; enter weight in computer.
• Identifies different metals and sorts the various grades according to specifications.
• Process payment of customers, verifying information is correct and material ticket for corresponding customer and price is correct.
• Sort completed checks, distribute originals to customers and maintain copies for filing.
• File appropriate paperwork to support scheduled payments to be made.
• Answering incoming calls; give directions, handle questions and/or direct to appropriate area/person.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and monitor performance metrics by managing and developing reports.
• Assist in training of other new administrative employees in transactions as requested.
• Assists with cleanup duties at the end of production.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and consistently wear required PPE.
• All other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Our corporate support center and marketing operations are based in St. Louis, MO, with trading offices in St. Louis and Hong Kong.

Position Overview

Under supervision, oversee, facilitate, process and maintain accurate records for the yard of scrap materials received and/or shipped within the yard. Responsibilities include monitoring material flow, ensuring proper documentation, and supporting compliance with safety and operational standards. The role also performs cashiering duties at the cash window and truck scale, including processing cash tickets and completing various clerical reports and administrative tasks required for daily operations.

Candidate Profile

A high school diploma or GED is preferred, and prior experience in metals or industrial operations is advantageous. Math aptitude necessary, must be able to multi-task when handling customers and vendors in person, on the phone, etc. Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude are essential.
