Job summary

Caesars Digital in Jersey City seeks a skilled Scala Engineer to join our backend team, building real-time retention platforms such as the Sports Bonus Engine and Caesars Rewards. This role is hybrid, onsite three days per week, with onboarding on-site as required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years backend development experience with at least 2 years in Scala.
• Strong knowledge of functional programming principles.
• Experience with real-time systems, high-throughput APIs, and low-latency data processing.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices, and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Proficiency with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, Redis).
• Hands-on with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Willingness for rotational on-call duty every 4–6 weeks.

Responsibilities

• Build high-quality Scala software with strong unit test coverage and end-to-end automation.
• Refactor code to improve performance and maintainability.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to deliver scalable real-time engagement and rewards systems.
• Work with product managers to add features enhancing user experience and system capabilities.
• Debug and resolve issues across the retention platform.
• Analyze performance and implement speed and reliability optimizations.
• Collaborate in a cross-functional team with AQA, Front-end, iOS, and DevOps engineers.
• Participate in code reviews to uphold quality and share knowledge.
• Stay current with industry trends and technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
• Support hiring of future colleagues.
