Caesars Entertainment is hiring a Scala Engineer to build and maintain backend systems for retention platforms like Sports Bonus Engine and Caesars Rewards. The role is hybrid in Jersey City, requiring on-site presence 3 days a week and onboarding on-site.

Salary ranges from $120,000 to $170,000 USD, depending on experience and market demand. The team collaborates across product, DevOps, and QA to deliver scalable, real-time solutions with strong test coverage and performance optimizations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend development experience with at least 2 years in Scala
• Strong knowledge of functional programming principles
• Experience with real-time systems, high-throughput APIs, and low-latency data processing
• Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices, and message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Proficiency with relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, Redis)
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to deliver clean, maintainable code
• Willingness to rotate on-call duty every 4-6 weeks including weekends/holidays

Responsibilities

• Build high-quality software in Scala with strong test coverage and automated end-to-end validation
• Refactor code to improve performance and maintainability
• Collaborate with senior engineers to design scalable real-time engagement systems
• Work with product managers to implement features enhancing user experience and system capabilities
• Debug and resolve issues across the retention platform
• Analyze system performance and optimize for speed and reliability
• Collaborate in a cross-functional team including AQA, Front-end, iOS and DevOps engineers
• Participate in code reviews to ensure quality and knowledge sharing
• Stay updated on industry trends to maintain a competitive edge
• Support recruiting and onboarding of future teammates
