SCADA Support Engineer Consultant - New York City

The role supports the configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting of SCADA systems, ensuring availability, reliability, integrity, and usability of the SCADA system. The engineer works closely with client resources and third‑party vendors to meet project business goals.

Responsibilities
  • Assist client to create and document repeatable processes for configuring SCADA system components.
  • Support deployment of SCADA system components.
  • Set up, configure, and program full-featured cellular routers.
  • Configure logic, control schemes, network and communication paths for RTACs, RTUs, IEDs, HMIs, PLCs and other SCADA equipment.
  • Edit database to prepare points lists and program data addressing and routing information.
  • Create XA/21 Energy Management System displays, charts and visualizations.
  • Develop HMI screens.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting of SCADA system components.
  • Perform data analysis to evaluate system defects.
  • Conduct and document root‑cause analysis of newly deployed SCADA failures.
  • Interact with third‑party vendors to obtain purchased parts or services.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and track assets using client systems and MS Excel.
  • Provide weekly progress updates.
  • Help client track costs using inventory ledgers.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure deployments are completed on schedule.

This is an hourly position with opportunity for overtime.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience with electric, gas or water SCADA systems, including configuration/programming DMS/EMS, cellular routers, RTACs, RTUs, and related peripherals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Basic knowledge of SCADA communication data flow and protocols.
  • Experience deploying, testing and troubleshooting system software.Hands‑on experience configuring and testing SEL RTACs, RTUs, HMIs or PLCs.
  • Networking knowledge and communication protocols (RS‑232, RS‑485, TCP/IP, XMPP, DNP, SEL, etc.).
  • Knowledge of electric utility operation, control or optimization.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Strong skills with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Assertive verbal and written communication skills.
  • Teamwork-focused collaborative work style.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully on highly visible projects and see tasks through to completion without significant guidance.
  • Problem‑solving skills with demonstrated results.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple detail‑oriented tasks.
Desired Qualifications
  • 2‑3 years of hands‑on experience configuring SEL RTACs.
  • 3‑5 years of experience in power systems engineering and/or software development focused on generation, transmission, distribution and/or outage management.
  • 3‑5 years of experience working with control algorithms and/or software development.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience with C#, C++, Python, or SQL.
  • Analysis tools experience: ANT, CUnit, JUnit, FxCop or PREfast.
  • Familiar with platform‑independent tools and libraries.
  • Source version control experience: CVS, Git or Subversion.
  • Experience with OSI Pi and AF.
  • Experience using Tableau.
