Coalesce Management Consulting (CMC) is seeking a highly experienced Senior SCADA Engineer to support the design, operation, and maintenance of advanced SCADA systems used for monitoring and controlling large-scale electric grid infrastructure. This role will serve as a technical leader responsible for engineering standards development, system architecture, integration, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Lead Engineer within the SCADA engineering function.
- Act as the subject matter expert in SCADA system design, architecture, communications, EMS integration, configuration, and control/analog point implementation.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, technical documentation, specifications, and design guidelines aligned with industry best practices and evolving business objectives.
- Perform complex engineering studies, evaluations, calculations, and technical analyses to support system enhancements and standards development.
- Lead evaluation, testing, and implementation of new SCADA technologies and improvements to existing platforms.
- Oversee integration of emerging technologies with legacy systems, ensuring compatibility and compliance with established standards.
- Design and modify RTU architectures, configurations, and point lists to support capital and operational projects.
- Conduct site visits and collaborate with field personnel to ensure successful execution of engineering solutions.
- Monitor project schedules and budgets to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery.
- Manage external engineering partners when required.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership by offering timely, well-supported technical recommendations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent progressive experience).
- Minimum of 10 years of directly related SCADA engineering experience.
- Expert-level knowledge of energy management systems and SCADA applications for electric grid monitoring, protection, and control.
- Advanced expertise in SCADA engineering principles, system architecture, and integration.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and present technical recommendations clearly.
- Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure environments and make sound decisions with limited information.
- Proficiency with engineering tools, software platforms, and automated systems.
- Ability to work onsite as required to support collaborative engineering activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or successful completion of the FE exam.
- Experience within electric utility or industrial power systems environments.
- Deep knowledge of SCADA-related technologies, including RTUs, IEDs, EMS, HMIs, and annunciator systems.
- Strong understanding of communication standards such as RS-232 and RS-485.
- Experience with IP networking and Ethernet-based architectures.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices, including NERC CIP standards.
- Advanced experience with DNP3 and Modbus, and working knowledge of legacy protocols (e.g., SC1801, PERT 26/31, TG6500, TELEGYR).
- Experience with energy management platforms such as OSI Monarch or comparable systems.
- Familiarity with common SCADA hardware platforms and architectures.
- Understanding of fiber, microwave, wireless, and TDM-based communications systems.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
