Job summary

City of Peoria seeks a skilled technician to maintain and troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation and SCADA systems across water and wastewater facilities and remote sites.

The role involves PLC/HMI programming, testing and commissioning, with strong focus on safety for voltages up to 12,470 VAC and robust documentation and customer service.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, programming, testing and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation, automation, PLC and SCADA systems.
• Support water and wastewater treatment plants and remote sites.
• Develop and review system drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Document activities and maintain records for compliance and maintenance.

Job description

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

• Two-year college program, apprenticeship, or equivalent combinations resulting in accumulation of similar knowledge or skills.

Experience:

• Must have 2 years’ experience in advanced instrumentation and electrical controls technologies.
• Must have demonstrated knowledge of electrical safety and troubleshooting abilities for voltages up to 12,470 VAC. Must have demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and develop control system programming including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) software.

Physical Demands:

• Work requires heavy physical exertion and effort.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Two (2) Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade 1 Certifications within the first year of hire.
• Valid Arizona Class “D” Driver's License.

The purpose of this position is to perform skilled maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, programming, testing, and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation, automation, PLC, and SCADA systems for water and wastewater treatment plants and remote sites. Persons in this position must possess extensive knowledge of complex SCADA software and hardware systems, PLC programming, process instrumentation, industrial communications, and electrical systems, including the ability to switch, troubleshoot, and test voltages up to and including 12,470 VAC. Employees in this position must be able to differentiate between all colors of the spectrum. Employees in this position are required to work in a rotating standby detail of approximately one week every six weeks.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

• A solid understanding of all aspects of automation
• Experience with PLC and HMI programming via a variety of software applications and strong troubleshooting skills
• Strong documentation skills as well as the ability to read and comprehend system drawings, schematic and wiring diagrams
• A good working knowledge of electrical system repair and maintenance
• The ability to multi-task, which includes working on multiple work orders at once,
• Excellent customer service skills are also imperative.
