SCADA and Automation Engineer (10+ years)

POWER Engineers, Member of WSP, is seeking a 10+ year SCADA and Automation Engineer to join our SCADA and Analytical Services (SAS) team in our Ann Arbor office. This position offers the ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location (please specify your preferred location in the application questions).

Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the successful completion of assigned projects and maintaining strong client relationships. This requires technical competence in primary production roles, leadership in working with clients, and mentoring and supervising team members. Projects include SCADA, automation, and communications for utility and industrial clients across the U.S., involving systems like conventional and renewable generation, substations, and transmission/distribution systems.

Technical disciplines include:

1. Networking and Communications: Design and configure network and communication paths for RTUs, IEDs, HMIs, PLCs, and other SCADA equipment, including data security and availability. Develop specifications for fiber optics, microwave, power line carrier, or radio communication. Travel to project sites for troubleshooting and commissioning.
2. Applicable network and communication protocols: DNP, Modbus, SEL Protocol, Goose Messaging, IEC 61850, TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet, and legacy utility protocols.
3. Logic and Control Systems: Develop and implement logic schemes for power system operations like RAS, distribution automation, PV solar, energy storage, microgrids, and more. Program control schemes and travel to sites for testing and commissioning.
4. Applicable Platforms: SEL RTAC, NovaTech, Cooper SMP, GE-D20, PLCs, IEC 61131, Lua, Python.
5. Data Acquisition: Prepare points lists, assign data routing, develop HMI screens, and test data transfer schemes on-site.
6. Applicable Software: Wonderware, Clearview, AcSELerator RTAC, NovaTech NCD, Inkscape, Visual Basic, OSIPI, Python scripting.

Additional Aptitudes: Integrity, initiative, communication, leadership, business acumen, troubleshooting, interpersonal skills, organization, willingness to travel, and ability to work in a customer-focused environment.

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
• 10+ years of industry experience

Preferred:

• Experience managing similar projects in a consulting environment
• Mentoring and leadership experience in engineering projects
• PE or equivalent certification
