Are you ready to support the implementation of Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) services for adolescents and young adults ages 12–21 throughout Detroit and Wayne County? If so, join our team as we are seeking an experienced and mission-driven SBIRTCoordinator to support the growth and daily operations of the SBIRT program and Youth Services department at Detroit Recovery Project.

Detroit Recovery Project, Inc. (DRP) is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) that provides outpatient recovery support services for individuals experiencing substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. We treat the whole person through our integrated programs of primary medical and behavioral healthcare.

What We’re Looking For:

Detroit Recovery Project is seeking an experienced SBIRT Coordinator to help coordinate screening activities at DRP locations, schools, community centers, outreach sites, and community events while connecting individuals who need additional services to appropriate behavioral health, substance use, and primary care resources.

This is a position that requires strong communication, organization, relationship-building, and outreach skills.

Compensation Range:

This position is supported through grant funding. As a result, compensation is determined by the grant budget and may fall within a designated pay rate or range set by that funding source and is subject to change based on grant sustainability. Currently, the pay rate for this role is $26.44 per hour. This position is classified as hourly non-exempt and is eligible for overtime compensation.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

• Oversee and lead the daily operations of outreach programming and the Mobile Health Clinic, including managing schedules, staffing, and community requests.
• Coordinate and support SBIRT screening activities for youth and young adults in community, school, health care, and outreach settings.
• Conduct or assist with age-appropriate substance use screenings using approved SBIRT screening tools after completing required training.
• Provide education and brief interventions using Motivational Interviewing and other evidence-based approaches within the scope of training.
• Identify individuals who may benefit from additional substance use, behavioral health, primary care, or social services.
• Facilitate warm handoffs and referrals to treatment and community resources and follow up to help reduce barriers to care; while coordinating with other Youth Services team members.
• Participate in community outreach, including street outreach and community events.
• Build positive relationships with youth, families, schools, community organizations, peer recovery coaches, health care providers, and other partners.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of screenings, interventions, referrals, follow-up activities, and participant services in the electronic health record and other required systems.
• Assist with data collection, program tracking, quality improvement, and grant reporting requirements.
• Participate in staff meetings, case coordination, training, supervision, and program evaluation activities.
• Support youth-focused educational workshops, prevention activities, support groups, and substance-free community activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow DRP policies, trauma-informed practices, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Perform other duties related to the successful implementation of the SBIRT program.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in guidance and counseling, psychology, social work, education, business or public health administration, or a related field preferred.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Experience working with youth, young adults, families, behavioral health, substance use services, community programs, outreach, peer support, health care, or social services preferred.

Lived experience with recovery or experience working within the recovery community is valued.

• Ability to communicate effectively, collaborate across teams, and build strong working relationships with community partners.
• Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential or sensitive information.

Ability to engage individuals respectfully and work effectively with diverse communities.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Ability to travel between DRP, school, community, and outreach locations throughout Wayne County.

Peer Recovery Coach/Mentor, Community Health Worker, Mental Health First Aid, or similar training is preferred.

Experience with substance use prevention, SBIRT, Motivational Interviewing, behavioral health, youth services, or community outreach is preferred.

Familiarity with Detroit and Wayne County community resources is preferred.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and program management software.
• Experience with Electronic Health or Medical Records systems (EMR/EHR) preferred.
• Ability to successfully pass all pre-employment checks including drug-screenings.

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

• Valid and unrestricted Driver’s License.
• Reliable transportation with current automobile insurance meeting agency policy requirements.
