Job summary

Columbia-Industries is seeking a Sawyer Operator to independently operate and maintain plate processing equipment in the Plate Shop. You will cut, form, drill, and prepare metal components according to engineering drawings and production specs.

Essential duties include setting up the CNC hydraulic saw, reading blueprints, and verifying quality. A forklift may be used; team support and strict adherence to time standards are expected.

Description

The Sawyer Operator is responsible for independently operating and maintaining plate processing equipment within the Plate Shop. This role supports production by cutting, forming, drilling, and preparing metal components according to engineering drawings and production specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Set up, layout and operate mechanical, CNC hydraulic saw to cut structural steel to length according to blueprints.
  2. Select correct feeds, speeds, blade gaps and/or tooling for the job.
  3. Load, install and correctly setup the tooling as required.
  4. Read blueprint and work order instructions to correctly produce parts checking prints for errors.
  5. Accurately process, identify, and number a variety of material for fabrication, deburring ends.
  6. Perform assigned work to time standards and quality expectations.
  7. Assist less experienced saw detailers and operators and other production team members as needed.
  8. Issue material to work orders and record material certifications to work order.
  9. Safely operate a forklift to handle materials and completed work.
  10. Make decisions and problem solve for routine manufacturing issues or seek assistance.
  11. Initiate quality control documents for materials, processes and parts production issues.
  12. Participate in equipment preventative maintenance for safe operation; maintaining internal saw parts, belts, blades, and guides as necessary.
  13. Miscellaneous other duties as directed by Plate Processing or Shift Lead.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

2 years of experience preferred

Education and/or Equivalent Experience

High School Diploma and 2 years of experience in shop environment preferred.
