Job summary

Idaho Forest Group is seeking a Sawmill Supervisor to lead the log yard/merch, sawmill, and filing room teams, ensuring safe, efficient processing of raw materials while upholding quality and production standards.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing machinery and safety protocols.
  • Willing to work nights or weekends as needed.
  • Ability to pass drug/alcohol test, pre-employment physical, and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee duties in log yard/merch, sawmill, and filing room to meet safety, quality, and production goals.
  • Lead daily safety, quality, production, scheduling, and crew meetings; manage lumber and log inventory.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, QC and maintenance to identify improvements.
  • Partner with Department Manager to meet budget goals and sales needs.
  • Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback to team members.
  • Review and approve timecards for payroll and records.
  • Address safety concerns via reporting and incident investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with rules, JSAs, and safety protocols.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sawmill Supervisor leads the team responsible for all operations in the log yard/merch, sawmill, and filing room, ensuring efficient processing of raw materials while prioritizing safety, quality, and production standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Comprehend and perform all duties in accordance with rules, regulations and JSAs
  • Follow safety protocols and report hazards to ensure a safe work environment
  • Supervise daily safety, quality, production, scheduling, crew meetings, lumber and log inventory
  • Proactive leadership that fosters teamwork and enhances IFG culture and standards including knowledge of IFG KPI and QMS (quality management system)
  • Work closely with other supervisors, QC and maintenance to identify repair, improvement opportunities, and solutions
  • Partner with Department Manager to meet budget goals
  • Lead team to meet production tallies and sales needs
  • Conduct up-time analysis for continuous improvement
  • Train, coach, evaluate performance and counsel team members
  • Train, assist, and familiarize new hires with company work rules, policies, safety, communication systems and teamwork
  • Actively address safety concerns through reporting, incident investigation and risk management
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving employee timecards for payroll and recordkeeping purposes
  • Duties may vary by location
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
    • Familiarity with manufacturing machinery and safety protocols.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and lead a diverse team to achieve a common goal.
    • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting.
    • Problem-solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to address operational challenges creatively and effectively.
    • Organizational Skills: The ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Examples include time management, multitasking, and production targets.
  • Must be willing to work nights or weekends as needed.
  • Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test, post-offer pre-employment physical, and background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • General understanding of OSHA requirements, LOTO procedures and standard operating procedures
  • Experience with QC/QA programs and tools
  • Valid driver's license
PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Office, Finance, Corporate, Mill Supervisory

Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs.
