The Saw Filer is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and precision sharpening of all saws and cutting tools used in the sawmill. This role ensures that saws operate safely, efficiently, and with optimal cutting performance to support smooth mill production and high‑quality lumber output.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Sharpen, bench, level, tension, and align circular saws, band saws, and other cutting tools.
Inspect saws for cracks, wear, and defects; perform repairs or replace saws as needed.
Maintain proper saw tooth geometry, including side clearance, hook angle, and kerf.
Operate and maintain filing room equipment such as grinders, swages, welders, and tensioning machines.
Monitor saw performance during production and adjust saws or guides to improve cut quality.
Maintain accurate records of saw maintenance, usage, and inventory.
Work closely with millwrights and machine operators to troubleshoot sawing issues.
Keep the filing room clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
Follow all mill safety procedures and use required PPE.
Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and technical specifications.
Mechanical aptitude and strong problem‑solving skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Physical ability to lift heavy tools, stand for long periods, and work in a mill environment work from height as necessary.
