• Maintain saw tooth geometry including side clearance, hook angle, and kerf.
• Operate and maintain filing room equipment (grinders, swages, welders, tensioning machines).
• Monitor performance during production and adjust accordingly for quality cuts.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance, usage, and inventory.
• Collaborate with millwrights and operators to troubleshoot issues.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe filing room; follow PPE and safety procedures.

Biewer Sawmill, Inc. is looking to add a full time Sawfiler to our team in McBain, MI. The Saw Filer is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and precision sharpening of all saws and cutting tools used in the sawmill. This role ensures that saws operate safely, efficiently, and with optimal cutting performance to support smooth mill production and high‑quality lumber output.

Hours: 6:00am-4:00pm Weekends as needed

Accountabilities

Primary Responsibilities Will Include

• Sharpen, bench, level, tension, and align circular saws, band saws, and other cutting tools.
• Inspect saws for cracks, wear, and defects; perform repairs or replace saws as needed.
• Maintain proper saw tooth geometry, including side clearance, hook angle, and kerf.
• Operate and maintain filing room equipment such as grinders, swages, welders, and tensioning machines.
• Monitor saw performance during production and adjust saws or guides to improve cut quality.
• Maintain accurate records of saw maintenance, usage, and inventory.
• Work closely with millwrights and machine operators to troubleshoot sawing issues.
• Keep the filing room clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
• Follow all mill safety procedures and use required PPE.

Certifications, Education And Experience

• High school diploma or GED
• Good general mechanical aptitude, 1 year of Experience Required
