Job summary

Smithers-Oasis in Hudson, OH, is seeking a Saw Operator Level II for our Temprecision International facility. You will measure, cut and inspect foam, operate automatic saws and support safety and quality standards on a 3rd shift schedule.

Qualifications

• Reads a ruler and interprets simple drawings.
• Performs basic arithmetic calculations including decimals and fractions.
• Requires 1–2 years of manufacturing experience.
• Able to lift and maneuver up to 100 lb and perform physical tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Measures, cuts and prepares foam according to specs and product mix; sets up automatic horizontal saws.
• Directly responsible for quality of cuts.
• Processes promotional and special cuts to orders.
• Maintains saw safety and notifies maintenance of malfunctions.
• Changes saw blades and performs preventative maintenance as required.
• Operates production equipment as directed by Leaders.
• Completes and maintains production records.
• Keeps work area clean and safe per procedures.
• Inspects products and notes quality concerns to Leaders.
• Supports continuous improvement activities and company core values.

Some Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Saw Operator include (but are not limited to):

• Measures, cuts and pieces of foam according to specs and required product mix. Includes set up for automatic horizontal saws.
• Directly responsible for the quality of the cut.
• Processes promotionals and special cuts to orders.
• Maintains the safety of the saws, informing Maintenance, Production Technical Coordinator, and Production Supervisor of any malfunctions.
• Changes saw blades and preventative maintenance as required.
• Operates the production equipment at the direction of the Leaders.
• Completes and maintains all necessary production records as assigned.
• Maintains updated records on how products are cut accordingly.
• Maintains clean and safe work area according to established safety and cleaning procedures.
• Inspects products continually and notifies Leader if quality is questionable.
• Performs any other duties as required.
• Participates in and supports Smithers-Oasis continuous improvement activities.
• Supports and leads by example the Core Values of the organization.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Ability to read a ruler. Prefer high school diploma or G.E.D. or equivalent experience. Ability similar to that required to read and interpret simple drawings. Makes simple arithmetic calculations such as use of decimal and fractions.
• A minimum of 1-2 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Follows detailed instructions and standard practices and must usually be able to make, decisions require some judgment and planning to choose prescribed alternatives which detail course of action. Requires initiative.
• Employee has limited knowledge of confidential information. (process information, dimensions of products made, foam type)
• Must be able to lift and manipulate up to 100 lb buns. Must be able to lift 30 lbs to shoulder height, carry 30 lbs. at shoulder height 8' and stack. Considerable standing and walking, constant bending, reaching and stacking.
• Frequent exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as dust and fumes. Workflow is controlled by constant pressure for completion. Workflow builds to peaks in order to meet deadlines. Extended work hours may be required.

Typical full-time 3rd shift hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30pm to 6:30am. Overtime hours will be required based on business needs.

• PAY: Starting pay is $19.45/hour plus a $2.00/hour shift differential
