Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a hands-on Band Saw Operator to cut, measure, and inspect metal parts in a production setting. You will read blueprints, set up blades, and ensure cuts meet strict tolerances while maintaining safety and 5S practices.

The role requires 1 year of cutting-equipment experience, Forklift certification, and ability to lift 50 lbs. Daily tasks include routine maintenance, data logging, and collaboration with the fabrication team.

Qualifications

• Experience operating band saw or similar cutting equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and measurements.
• Forklift or material handling certification required.
• Lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Knowledge of manufacturing safety standards.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Prolonged standing/walking/sitting and occasional stairs.

Responsibilities

• Safely and accurately cut raw materials (strut) according to production specifications.
• Operate band saw equipment to cut materials to specified lengths, angles, and tolerances.
• Read and interpret production schedules, blueprints, and measurement tools.
• Set up and adjust saw settings, including blade type, feed rate, and cutting speed.
• Inspect materials for defects or inconsistencies before and after cutting.
• Perform routine maintenance, including blade changes, lubrication, cleaning, and alignment checks.
• Monitor machine performance and report unusual sounds, vibrations, or mechanical issues.
• Measure and verify finished cuts using precision tools.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, remove scrap, dispose of waste, and follow 5S practices.
• Follow safety protocols, including PPE usage and machine guarding practices.
• Record production data such as material usage, output, and downtime.
• Assist with other fabrication or production tasks as needed.

• One year of related machine operation experience required
• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and/or sitting and reaching with hands and arms
• May occasionally climb stairs, drive vehicles, and operate equipment
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time
