Job summary

STS Metals Inc. is seeking a Production Operator - Saws to operate sawing equipment, monitor processes, and maintain quality in a fast-paced production environment in Baldwin Park, CA. The role emphasizes safety, data recording, and teamwork to meet schedules.

You will perform setups, conduct inspections, handle materials, and cross-train across areas. Overtime and shift flexibility are required, with heat, noise, and chemical exposure possible depending on the area.

Qualifications

• Must understand basic blueprints and measuring tools.
• Strong attention to detail with commitment to quality.
• Forklift certification preferred.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor assigned equipment per SOPs and safety requirements.
• Perform basic setups, adjustments, and preventive checks.
• Conduct in-process quality inspections and document results.
• Handle raw materials, WIP, and finished goods safely.
• Record production data including quantities, times, and inspection results.
• Collaborate with team members to meet production targets.
• Maintain 5S and a clean, organized work area.
• Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or quality problems promptly.
• Cross-train and provide support in other areas as needed.
• Wear PPE: safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toe shoes.
• Work in environments with heat, noise, dust, and chemicals depending on area.

The Production Operator - Saws is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining equipment and processes to produce high-quality materials in a safe and efficient manner. This position requires adherence to safety standards, quality requirements, and production schedules. Operators may be assigned to specific equipment or processes depending on business needs.

Typical work hours are Monday-Friday 5:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for First Shift or 3:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. for Second Shift, with flexibility required for business needs. Frequent overtime may be required. This is a full-time Non-Exempt position.

• Operate and monitor assigned equipment in compliance with standard operating procedures and safety requirements.
• Perform basic setups, adjustments, and preventive checks to maintain machine performance.
• Conduct in-process quality inspections and document results.
• Handle raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods safely and efficiently.
• Record production data accurately, including quantities, times, and inspection results.
• Collaborate with team members, leads, and supervisors to meet production targets.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment; follow 5S and housekeeping standards.
• Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or quality issues promptly.
• Cross-train and provide support in other areas as required.
• Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes.
• Ability to work in environments with extreme heat, noise, dust, and chemicals depending on specialized area.

Specialized Areas

Saws: Operates sawing equipment to cut material to specified sizes with accuracy. Ability to use measurement tools; knowledge of saw concepts, practices and procedures; ability to read and understand work orders, tolerances and specifications; ability to set up machines, blades, stops or feeding devices, and flow of coolant against cutting area; ability to properly load material on saws using forklifts or other moving equipment; knowledge of changing blades on saws as needed; cleans saws at the end of shift; adheres to personal and facility safety procedures and practices.

Education & Qulaifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior manufacturing or machine operation experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret work instructions, basic blueprints, and measuring tools.
• Strong attention to detail with commitment to quality.
• Ability to operate forklift (certification preferred).
• Ability to lift to 50 lbs., bend, stand, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or shifts as needed.
