Job summary

Welding is seeking a Saw Operator in Manheim, PA to operate band saws, shear and punch presses, preparing parts for machining or welding. This non-exempt role reports to the Production Supervisor/Plant Manager in the Machine Shop.

Responsibilities include cutting steel, removing rust, loading/unloading trucks, handling materials with cranes, and ensuring quality control. Candidates must understand blueprints, use measuring tools, and work safely with PPE.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or acceptable equivalent.
• Ability to speak, read, write and understand English.
• Must be able to use a tape measure, ruler and calipers.
• Able to safely operate a forklift and other material handling equipment.
• Ability to understand simple blueprints.
• Able to perform simple lay-out work.

Responsibilities

• Use band saw to cut steel prior to machining.
• Clean and remove rust and debris from steel using a grinder.
• Assist with loading and unloading trucks.
• Place steel into storage racks using crane/hoist.
• Clean and maintain the saw and area around the saw.
• Punch holes into steel with hydraulic punch.
• Program and operate NC ironworker.
• Clean and maintain steel cleaning equipment.
• Produce acceptable work meeting Quality Control Standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area.
• Exhibit teamwork and perform other duties as assigned.

JOB TITLE: SAW OPERATOR

Non-Exempt Position

REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor / Plant Manager

DEPARTMENT: Machine Shop

BASIC FUNCTION:

Operate the electric band saw/Shear/Punch Press to prepare parts for Machining or Welding.

GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Use metal cutting band saw to cut steel prior to machining.
• Clean and remove rust and debris from steel using an electric angle grinder.
• Assist with loading and unloading trucks.
• Use material handling equipment (Crane and Hoist) to place steel into storage racks.
• Clean and maintain the saw and area around the saw.
• Operate hydraulic punch to punch holes into steel.
• Program and Operate NC ironworker.
• Clean and maintain steel cleaning equipment.
• Responsible for producing acceptable work which meets or exceeds all Quality Control Standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area.
• Exhibit interpersonal skills sufficient to perform as an active team member.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required by company management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 75 lbs.
• Routine bending, reaching and squatting.
• Ability to stand for 7+ hours per day.

• Required to wear all OSHA mandated safety equipment and to adhere to all company safety practices and policies.
• Demonstrate a positive and business-like attitude.
