Job summary

ATI in Monroe, NC is seeking a manufacturing Operator to cut materials to precise weights and lengths, load and unload parts, and maintain production standards using abrasive saws and surface conditioning equipment. You will read mill orders and samples to apply cutting instructions, inspect for defects, and participate in safety and root-cause activities.

Candidates should have 1–3 years of relevant experience and strong math skills.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years’ experience in manufacturing or machining.
• Above average math skills to measure and calculate complex cutting.
• Ability to read computer generated reports for inventory control and location levels.
• Comprehensive learning skills and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Operate abrasive saw to cut material to specified weight and length.
• Interpret and apply cutting instructions from mill orders and samples.
• Load, cut and unload material to maintain production standards.
• Operate surface conditioning equipment to remove defects.
• Visually inspect and remove defects and maintain material identity.
• Change abrasive wheels as required by material type.
• Participate in incident investigations to determine root causes.
• Participate in Standard Work Events to reduce cycle time and improve safety.
• Follow all prescribed safety rules and regulations.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

• Operate abrasive saw to cut material to a specified weight and length
• Ability to interpret and calculate all cutting instructions as prescribed by mill order traveler, sample request, dispositions, etc.
• Load, cut and unload material to maintain production standards.
• Operate surface conditioning equipment to remove and prevent surface defects from developing. (hand grinder, slide grinder, shot blaster)
• Visual inspect and remove all apparent defects
• Maintain material and scrap identity as prescribed by standard methods
• Change abrasive cut off wheels to correspond to material type.
• Participate in incident investigation to determine root causes using problem solving skills.
• Participate in Standard Work Events on processes to reduce cycle time and create a safer work area.
• Follow and implement all prescribed safety rules and regulations.

NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS:

• Maintain work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
• Perform other duties as required or directed by management.
