Position Summary
The Foam Saw Machine Operator safely sets up and operates foam-cutting equipment to cut large foam blocks into smaller components used in mattress production. The position follows work orders, cutting specifications, quality tolerances, traceability requirements, and all machine-safety procedures.

- Review production orders and cutting specifications; verify foam type, density, block identification, and required dimensions.
- Complete pre-use equipment checks and confirm guards, emergency stops, controls, and the cutting area are safe.
- Set up and operate the foam saw only after completing required training and receiving authorization.
- Load, position, and secure foam blocks safely using approved material-handling methods and lifting aids.
- Cut foam blocks into specified lengths, widths, or thicknesses for mattress components.
- Measure first pieces and periodic samples, record required checks, and maintain product identification and traceability.
- Segregate nonconforming foam, minimize scrap, and report material, blade, equipment, or quality problems immediately.
- Keep the saw and work area clean, wear required PPE, follow lockout/tagout requirements and never bypass safeguards devices, and perform other assigned duties.
Primary Objectives / Key Performance Expectations
- Operate safely and complete all required equipment and quality checks.
- Produce cut foam that meets dimensional tolerances, specifications, and traceability requirements.
- Meet production targets while minimizing scrap, rework, and material damage.
- Maintain dependable attendance, accurate records, housekeeping, teamwork, and cross-training.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and prior machine-operation or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Ability to read work orders, cut sheets, labels, and dimensional specifications.
- Basic math and measurement skills, including use of a tape measure; caliper experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, dependable attendance, teamwork, and availability for assigned shifts or overtime.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for most or all of an 8- to 10-hour shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push, pull, position, or maneuver foam blocks using approved assistance.
- Ability to bend, reach, grip controls and materials, and perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to work safely near cutting blades and moving equipment and to see, hear, and communicate sufficiently, with or without reasonable accommodation.
