Job summary

Stimson Lumber Company, Gaston, OR, seeks an experienced Filer for our saw filing department. Join a team focused on innovation, continuous improvement, and skill development in a saw shop environment.

The position requires 5+ years in saw filing or a certified filing trainee, with the ability to bench and repair band and round saws and handle maintenance tasks. Overtime and benefits are included, with opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5+ years saw filing experience or has completed a filing trainee program, with certification.
• Demonstrated ability to fit, bench and repair round saws and band saws and complete saw changes.
• Strong understanding of machines, saws and production flow.

Responsibilities

• Be competent and proficient with multiple different saws but primarily files 1-2 types of saws.
• Maintain and repair saws and related equipment at the plant (repair cracks and replace teeth including carbide and swage tooth).
• Be able to bench both band and round saws. Complete required preventative maintenance tasks.
• Assist in machine center alignments.

Job Details: Job Location: Forest Grove Mill and Resource Office - Gaston, OR 97119, Position Type: Full Time, Salary Range: $28.00 - $35.00 Hourly, Job Shift: Any, Stimson Lumber Company in Gaston, ORis seeking an experienced Filerto join our team in our saw filing department. The position offers a great career opportunity for someone who possesses a desire to learn and become proficient in saw filing skills, is team-oriented and has good attention to detail. Schedule: Full-time, Day or Swing shift. Starting Pay: Base pay for this skilled position will start at $28.00 to $35.00 per hour. People with significant knowledge and experience may come in at a higher level.

• Overtime: This position is eligible for Overtime at time and a half.
• Shift Differential: We offer differential pay for both swing shift and graveyard.
• Healthcare: Stimson pays over 80% of the premiums for healthcare coverage for full-time employees, including medical, dental and vision.
• 401(k): Stimson provides a 100% match on the first 6% of your pay when you contribute to your 401(k) retirement account.
• Profit Sharing: Contributions are deposited annually into your 401(k) account for Profit Sharing, up to 3% of your pay.
• Bonus: This position is bonus eligible and will receive a discretionary bonus in years when the company and location are profitable.
• Paid Time-Off: Position offers 9 paid holidays and 2 weeks of paid vacation. Paid sick leave is available up to 40 hours per year.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Be competent and proficient with multiple different saws but primarily files 1-2 types of saws.
• Maintain and repair saws and related equipment at the plant (repair cracks and replace teeth including carbide and swage tooth).
• Be able to bench both band and round saws. Complete required preventative maintenance tasks. Assist in machine center alignments.
• Handle all foundational saw filing duties and responsibilities. Provide direction for those requiring extensive experience or expert knowledge. Knife grinding as applicable at the plant.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum of 5+ years saw filing experience or has completed a filing trainee program, with certification.
• Demonstrated ability to: fit, bench and repair round saws and band saws and complete saw changes.
• Strong understanding of machines, saws and production flow.
• Ability to stand 8 - 10 hours per day, lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Ability to complete repetitive upper body motions.
• Experience with swage, shape, hammer saws, changing edger saws and guides
