Part-Time SAT Math and Reading Academic Instructor/ Tutor
Employment Type: Part-time, in-person
Pay Range: $20- $22 per hour
Position Overview
Sylvan Learning is seeking an experienced and academically strong SAT Math and Reading Tutor to help high school students prepare confidently and effectively for the SAT. The SAT Tutor will provide structured instruction in SAT Math and SAT Reading and Writing. Instructors will help students strengthen tested academic skills, understand question formats, manage their time, develop test-taking strategies, and learn from practice-test results. Applicants may teach SAT Math, SAT Reading and Writing, or both areas depending on their qualifications and subject expertise.
Required Availability
Applicants must be available during the following instructional hours:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 3:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.
- Friday: 3:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Actual scheduled shifts and weekly hours may vary based on enrollment, staffing needs, and student schedules.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide study-skills and homework support individually and in groups of up to four students.
- Teach organization, time-management, note-taking, and test-preparation strategies.
- Help students plan assignments, projects, and study schedules.
- Support students with completing and understanding homework.
- Follow Sylvan’s instructional methods, curriculum, and preplanned lessons.
- Help students set realistic academic goals and monitor their progress.
- Encourage responsibility, independence, and academic confidence.
- Adapt strategies to each student’s age, learning needs, and school responsibilities.
- Document student progress and complete instructional notes.
- Use tablets and other instructional technology as required.
- Maintain a structured, professional, and encouraging environment.
- Complete all required Sylvan training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred, not required)
- Teaching credential ((preferred, not required)
- Accepting current enrolled college students
- One to two years of teaching, tutoring, or classroom experience (preferred, not required)
- Experience teaching phonics, fluency, vocabulary, or reading comprehension (preferred, not required)
- Experience supporting students with different academic needs and learning styles (preferred, not required)
