Job summary

The City of Winston-Salem, NC is seeking a dedicated supervisor to lead residential refuse collection operations. You will oversee field staff, optimize routes, and ensure safe, reliable service for residents.

Responsibilities include coaching staff, resolving customer issues, coordinating equipment needs, and maintaining compliance with OSHA and CDL requirements. Prior supervisory experience and a NC CDL are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; five years of solid waste or public works experience with supervisory duties preferred.
• Valid North Carolina CDL a must-have for the role.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and supervise residential refuse collection operations to ensure safe, efficient service.
• Supervise drivers and laborers; provide coaching and performance feedback.
• Optimize routes and monitor productivity to improve service delivery.
• Use Routeware and other software to track routes, manage customer data, and generate reports.
• Oversee vehicle inspections, repairs coordination, and preventive maintenance.
• Investigate missed collections and customer service requests; implement corrective actions.
• Ensure OSHA, CDL, and city safety policies compliance; respond during emergencies.
• Provide training and mentorship to new staff on procedures and safety.
