The City of Charlotte is seeking a Sanitation Equipment Operator in Charlotte, NC to operate a rear-end loading sanitation vehicle and assist with daily yard waste and recycling collection. Primary duties include inspecting equipment, performing manual tasks, and potentially leading a small crew.

This is a full-time, on-site role requiring a CDL (Class A/B) and the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. Work hours start at 6:30am, with overtime and irregular hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • Three years related driving experience, operating heavy equipment.
  • CDL required.
  • Ability to lift and carry 100 lbs.
  • Knowledge of traffic safety regulations and proper equipment operation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate rear-end loading sanitation vehicle to collect residential waste, yard waste, recycling, bulky items and debris.
  • May serve as lead person to a crew of two or more.
  • Daily inspection of equipment for readiness and safety.

The vehicle will be used to collect residential waste, yard waste, business garbage and other related debris. The Sanitation Equipment Operator may also serve as a lead person to a crew of two or more people. Hours: 6:30am - Until Complete**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*** Operating a rear-end loading sanitation, automatic collection, or other vehicle in order to collect residential waste such as household trash, yard waste, recycling, bulky item removal, business garbage, litter and other debris.* Daily inspection of assigned equipment for readiness and safety.* Performing related manual labor tasks such as, lifting and emptying containers, collecting yard waste or litter picking which involves frequent outside exposure under all weather conditions* Position may serve as lead person to two or more people on a crew**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES*** Ability to obtain a City's driver permit* Knowledge and experience in operation of heavy equipment Knowledge of traffic* laws, regulations, safety precautions work hazards involved in operation of equipment* Ability to lift and carry 100 lbs.* Ability to read and follow street maps & driving routes* Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions* Works assigned shift and may be required to assist in multiple Subject to overtime* Must also be able to work nights, weekends or other unusual hours as needed in support of special events or emergency response* Must be able to work holidays* Must have a valid Class A or B CDL**PREFERRED QUALIFICATION*** Previous manual labor experience**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**Three years related driving experience, operating heavy equipment AND**CDL REQUIRED****SALARY**$26.91 per hour**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
