Job summary

Sevier County is seeking a sanitation worker to haul household trash, debris and recyclables to the landfill on assigned routes. The role includes operating a large sanitation truck, maintaining centers, and assisting with maintenance tasks and public information.

Applicants should be able to perform physically demanding work in varying weather, interact with the public, and follow procedures. High school diploma preferred and CDL Class B preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in solid waste operations and operating heavy equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to follow established procedures and interact with the public.
• Basic maintenance and minor repair skills as needed.

Responsibilities

• Completes a safety inspection of assigned trucks and equipment prior to operation.
• Drives a sanitation truck along assigned route and picks up trash and debris for delivery to the landfill.
• Cleans the grounds of convenience centers when necessary.
• Assists with repair and maintenance around convenience centers, including fences and light building maintenance.
• Operates a one-ton truck to collect recyclable material and deliver it to the proper disposal location.
• Fills in for Convenience Center Attendants when necessary.
• Assists with cleaning and routine maintenance of garbage trucks and one-ton trucks.
• Provides information to the public regarding solid waste regulations and disposal.
• Spreads rock in lots at convenience centers when necessary.
• Makes minor repairs and adjustments to maintain equipment operation.
• Performs minor preventive maintenance and reports any malfunctions.
• Directs traffic around collection operations to ensure public safety.
• Performs related duties as required.
