Job summary

Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL is seeking an RN SANE Adult for per diem coverage. The role involves performing medical-forensic exams and evidence collection in accordance with Illinois guidelines and hospital policy.

Responsibilities include direct patient care for sexual assault patients, documentation, maintaining chain of custody, crisis intervention, patient education, and coordination with law enforcement. Per diem schedule and collaboration with the SANE program are expected.

Qualifications

• IAFN SANE A course adults with required State of Illinois clinical component.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing.
• Experience in Emergency Medicine or women’s health.
• Minimum 1 year SANE RN experience.
• Illinois RN licensure in good standing; if not IL-licensed, approval to practice in IL required by IL State SANE Coordinator.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to sexual assault patients in hospital setting.
• Conduct physical assessment and forensic exam of sexual assault patients.
• Obtain evidence with Illinois State Police Evidence Collection Kit with proper consent.
• Provide patient with option for forensic photography per guidelines.
• Identify and facilitate care for injuries requiring medical treatment.
• Maintain chain of custody of evidence and records.
• Document assessments, evidence collection, and interventions.
• Provide access to crisis intervention for patient.
• Coordinate privacy and confidentiality; collaborate with law enforcement and advocacy groups.
• Educate patient about exam, procedures, treatment, STD and pregnancy prevention, and follow-up care.
• Educate and participate in education of SANE nurses, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and community.
• Provide legal testimony on SANE cases when subpoenaed or required.

Education

IAFN SANE A course adults

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing

Illinois RN licensure

Emergency Medicine or Women’s Health experience

1 year SANE RN experience
