Job Title: Sander Operator Helper
Location: Temple, Texas. Department: Sanding. Shift: Night shifts (N1, N2).
Job Description
Open position for a Sander Operator Helper in the Temple Sanding department.
Key Responsibilities
- Retrieve pressed material from breakdown holding area.
- Operate table lift to position material to be sanded.
- Activate feed line, edge routing, and end cut.
- Insert individual laminate into the sander.
- Cut material to specified sizes.
- Adjust machine controls.
- Lay off exiting laminate sheets individually to the lay‑off table.
- Conduct visual quality checks of completed laminate during the process.
- Inspect material against specifications and pattern defects.
- Pull imperfect product onto defect table.
- Place finished product in the holding area for delivery to Finished Goods Department.
- Transfer production schedule to lay‑off table.
- Document material waste.
- Place new table at the sander to continue the process.
- Perform lock‑out/tag‑out procedures and preventative maintenance checks.
- Initiate corrective action if production operations do not meet standards.
- Ensure employees wear protective equipment as required.
- Provide on‑the‑job training to department personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of safety standards applicable to the work area and relevant rules/regulations.
- Knowledge of quality requirements for material.
- Basic mathematics skills for adding and subtracting.
- Hand‑eye coordination.
- Reading tape measure.
- Using a micrometer.
- Operating a lift truck.
- Establishing effective working relationships.
- Retaining information and learning to record production logs.
- Following directions.
- Working independently and as part of a team.
- Being safety conscious when operating machinery.
- Identifying colors and shades.
- Visually detecting product imperfections and defects.
- Monitoring machine operations and operating a computer.
Minimum Requirements
One year of work experience.
Physical Requirements
Continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, pushing, climbing, and lifting material or equipment weighing more than 50 lbs.
Environment
Work in an environment with regular exposure to fumes or odors, temperature extremes, or loud noises causing discomfort or moderate risk of accident or illness.
