Job summary

SPL in Conroe, TX is seeking a detail-oriented Sample Receiving Technician to support our environmental lab team. You will handle the intake, documentation, and organization of environmental samples, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficient turnaround.

Responsibilities include logging into LIMS, checking condition and labeling, preparing kits, coordinating shipments, and maintaining storage and inventory while following safety and quality procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; science degree preferred.
• Experience in data entry, administrative, clerical, sample handling, or lab support roles.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and organization.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; LIMS experience is a plus.

• Receive and document samples from clients, couriers, shipping, lab staff.
• Check samples for condition, labeling, preservation, and documentation.
• Enter sample details and testing requests into LIMS.
• Label, organize, and route samples to correct lab departments.
• Maintain sample storage areas and manage retrieval and disposal as needed.
• Prepare sample kits, containers, and supplies for field teams.
• Coordinate outbound sample shipments and track locations.
• Support inventory and keep lab supplies stocked and ready.
• Work with lab teams to keep sample flow moving efficiently.
• Maintain records and follow quality, safety, and compliance procedures.

We’re searching for a detail-oriented Sample Receiving Technician to join our environmental lab team in Conroe, TX.

In this role, you’ll handle the intake, documentation, and organization of environmental samples to support compliance and decision-making. From logging samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to overseeing storage and distribution, your work ensures accuracy, efficiency, and integrity across the lab.

What You’ll Do

• Receive and document samples from clients, couriers, shipping, laboratory, and/or field staff
• Check samples for proper condition, labeling, preservation, and documentation
• Reviewchain-of-custody paperwork and identify missing or incorrect information
• Enter sample details, testing requests, and other information into LIMS
• Label, organize, and route samples to the correct laboratory departments
• Keep track of where samples are, where they need to go, and when they need to get there
• Maintain organized sample storage areas and handle sample retrieval and disposal
• Prepare sample kits, containers, and supplies for field teams and clients
• Prepare and coordinate outbound sample shipments
• Help manage inventory and keep laboratory supplies stocked and ready
• Work closely with laboratory teams to help keep sample flow moving efficiently
• Maintain accurate records and follow laboratory quality, safety, and compliance procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field preferred
• Previous work experience in data entry, administrative, clerical, sample handling, or laboratory support roles
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and organization
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other basic computer applications; LIMS experience is a plus
