Position Overview
The Salesforce & Fundraising Operations Associate serves as the primary administrator for Room to Read's Salesforce NPSP environment and related fundraising systems. The role ensures that Development & Communications teams have accurate data, effective systems, and reliable reporting to support fundraising and donor engagement.
Working closely with Development & Communications, Finance, and IT, the Associate asks the right questions to understand business needs and recommends practical Salesforce solutions rather than simply implementing requests. This role requires strong technical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while balancing competing priorities.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day Salesforce NPSP administration, including configuration, user access, permissions, troubleshooting, maintenance, and system improvements.
- Maintain accurate and reliable fundraising data across Salesforce and related systems, including donations, constituent records, imports, revenue tracking, and soft credits.
- Build and maintain dashboards and complex Salesforce reports involving multiple objects, data sources, calculations, or business requirements, including matrix, joined, cross-object, formula-based, and custom reports.
- Analyze fundraising data and prepare reports and insights to support planning, leadership decision-making, and fundraising performance.
- Identify and resolve data or system issues and improve workflows, data quality, and operational efficiency.
Stakeholder Support, Training & System Adoption (25%)
- Partner with Development & Communications, Finance, IT, and other stakeholders to understand business needs and provide Salesforce guidance and support.
- Diagnose business needs by asking effective questions, clarifying objectives, and evaluating options before recommending a system, reporting, or process solution.
- Recommend practical, scalable solutions, including alternative approaches when a stakeholder's initial request may not be the best solution.
- Provide user support, training, onboarding, and documentation that promote effective system use and adoption.
Project Management & Process Improvement (15%)
- Lead Salesforce enhancements and process improvements from planning through testing and implementation.
- Prioritize competing requests based on business impact, urgency, risk, and organizational needs, and communicate priorities and expectations clearly.
- Use sound judgment to make decisions, solve problems, and move work forward independently, including in ambiguous situations.
- Consider the downstream impact of system changes on data, reporting, integrations, fundraising processes, and users before implementation.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on Salesforce administration experience, including configuration, reporting and dashboards, automation, data management, user support, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose business needs, ask effective questions, evaluate options, and recommend appropriate CRM, reporting, and process solutions.
- Demonstrated experience building complex Salesforce reports and dashboards involving multiple objects, data sources, calculations, or business requirements.
- Strong data management skills, including data quality, integrity, governance, imports, and an understanding of how system changes may affect other processes or data.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, solve problems, exercise sound judgment, and manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, lookups, and data analysis.
Preferred
- Experience administering Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP).
- Experience supporting fundraising, donor management, advancement, membership, or nonprofit operations.
- Experience with integrated CRM, finance, fundraising, reporting, or data platforms.
- Experience working in a global organization and/or familiarity with SQL, Salesforce integrations, or Apex.
What Success Looks Like
- Take ownership of Salesforce issues and improvements and move solutions forward independently.
- Understand the underlying business need and recommend the right solution rather than simply implementing a request.
- Build reporting that answers meaningful business questions and clearly explain the logic and approach behind it.
- Prioritize competing needs using sound judgment and communicate decisions clearly.
- Think beyond the immediate change and consider how Salesforce decisions may affect data, reporting, integrations, processes, and users across the organization.
