Job description

Position Summary

Provide sales assistance and product information on building materials and related merchandise to customers and sales staff.

Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Greet and assist customers with counter sales, questions on products, and other inquiries as needed.
2. Perform customer service via phone and in person, providing information about products, services, and sales.
3. Lookup parts via computer, catalogue, or manufacturer/distributor websites.
4. Contact suppliers for availability and costs on special order products.
5. Provide timely follow-up on project quotes and estimates.
6. Coordinate jobsite deliveries with the dispatch department.
7. Fill customer backorders and contact customers when parts arrive.
8. Promote and sell new or additional services or products to meet customer needs.
9. Take and enter orders, process cancellations, returns, and will-call orders.
10. Maintain cash drawer, issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
11. Process returns, exchanges, quotes, sales orders, credits, purchase orders, stock receipts, work orders, and stock transfers.
12. Provide and maintain product literature and information on building materials and inventory.
13. Stock shelves, price, and organize merchandise.
14. Clean, organize, and stock showroom and counter area.
15. Be knowledgeable of store or manufacturer promotions.
16. Assist other departments and sales staff with products and services.
17. Assist with preparing and maintaining merchandise displays.
18. Ensure safety compliance by cleaning, maintaining, and operating tools, equipment, and storage areas.
19. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

High School Diploma or GED required. Previous experience with building materials preferred. Computer, email, and office machine proficiency required.

Other Requirements

Must pass pre-employment drug screen and physical. Work hours include mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime. Maintain regular attendance.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work environment includes indoor and outdoor retail settings, with temperature variations, chemicals, noise, and dust. Must have clear vision for reading and computer work. Ability to squat, bend, climb, lift up to 75 lbs., and stand/walk for extended periods. Reaching at or above shoulder level and below waist may be required.
