R.W. Mercer Co. is a family-owned construction and service company headquartered in Jackson, Michigan with seven locations - six in Michigan and one in Indiana. The company operates in three distinct areas of construction: petroleum contracting and service, general contracting, and electrical. In each area, R.W. Mercer provides a turn-key approach that includes planning, design, construction, and installation as well as service, monitoring, and maintenance.
The Sales Representative is responsible for increasing our current market area in Indiana and Ohio by managing assigned accounts, building customer relationships, developing new business, and coordinating with customers and internal departments to deliver a professional sales experience and maximize customer satisfaction.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sell the company's products and services to current customers and new prospects.
- Build a qualified pipeline of new business opportunities in the assigned territory through research, networking, and cold calling.
- Effectively plan and conduct sales presentations to prospective customers.
- Collaborate with team members to develop strong business leads and sales opportunities.
- Maintain customer account activity and communications in the CRM system, and complete required reports weekly.
- Gather information necessary to complete accurate scopes of work including project checklists, photos and drawings with dimensions.
- Attend pre-construction meetings with Project Managers to review scopes of work, material lists, bids, permitting, inspections, scheduling and project duration.
- Work closely with Project Managers, vendors and subcontractors and utilize company systems and forms to ensure all quotes are accurate, complete and submitted to customers in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with Project Managers from project award through completion to address scheduling, change orders, and other job-related issues.
- Keep customers informed of project progress through completion and support the collection of outstanding balances.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by completing training modules, attending workshops, and other activities to increase knowledge of the company products and services.
- Resolve customer complaints in a timely manner by investigating problems and working with other departments, vendors and team members to develop solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- College degree in related field preferred, but not required
- 2 to 4 years of previous outside sales experience
- Ability to work effectively in a digital environment and use CRM and related business systems.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and cross functional collaboration skills.
