Territory: Georgia, South Alabama, and the Northern Florida Panhandle
About Our Company
Environmental Management Services, Inc. (EMS, Inc.) is a privately owned contract operations company that has provided specialized environmental management services and equipment solutions since 1979. As a small, niche-market company, we focus on identifying and supplying practical equipment and service solutions that meet the unique needs of our commercial and municipal customers.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated, customer-focused Sales Engineer / Project Manager to expand our equipment sales and service business across Georgia, South Alabama, and the Northern Florida Panhandle, and to see projects through from the first conversation to a completed, working system.
This is not a catalog-and-quote sales job. Our customers are operators, engineers, city officials, and facility owners with real operational challenges, and every sale is built on trust, technical understanding, and follow-through. You will be the person customers rely on from the first site visit through startup: understanding the problem, shaping the right solution, preparing the proposal, and making sure the project is delivered the way it was promised.
You do not need to arrive knowing everything. We are looking for technical aptitude, strong communication skills, and the curiosity to learn specialized equipment applications, working alongside people who run these systems every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new business and maintain relationships with commercial and municipal customers, including municipal departments, wastewater treatment facilities, contractors, and commercial operators.
- Visit customers on site, assess operational needs, define project scope, and recommend practical technical solutions, including onsite treatment systems, wastewater treatment equipment, and liquid waste and sewer management options.
- Promote and sell specialized equipment, products, and services for environmental management, wastewater treatment, and liquid waste handling applications.
- Prepare technical proposals, quotations, and cost estimates, and follow each opportunity through the sales process.
- Manage awarded projects from contract through completion, coordinating schedules, equipment, vendors, subcontractors, installation, and startup, and keeping the customer informed along the way.
- Coordinate with company operations, construction, and service personnel to ensure customer requirements are met and projects transition smoothly into service.
Qualifications
- Technical background in engineering, environmental science, wastewater or drinking water operations, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
- Experience in sales, business development, equipment sales, or project management preferred.
- Industry experience is a plus, and we welcome it from any direction: municipal, wastewater, drinking water, environmental services, industrial equipment, pump or equipment distribution, contracting, laboratory, or operator licensure.
- Comfort reading and discussing system drawings, specifications, and equipment data.
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to understand customer challenges and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Comfortable working independently across a multi-state territory and managing multiple projects at once.
- Willingness to travel regularly throughout the territory and to visit treatment facilities and other outdoor job sites.
- Proficiency in preparing proposals, maintaining customer records and project schedules, and following up on opportunities.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
What We Offer
- An established, privately owned company serving customers since 1979.
- A specialized market where customer relationships and technical problem-solving matter.
- The opportunity to develop and grow a regional territory and to see projects through from start to finish.
- A hands‑on role with direct access to company operations and decision-makers.
- Compensation and benefits based on experience and qualifications.
- Vehicle options available, including the possibility of a vehicle allowance.
- Company‑provided cell phone.
- Business travel and expenses covered by the company.
