Job Purpose

Location: Bay Area

Our Sales Manager will be responsible for overseeing the development, coordination and direction of profitable sales within a specified region. Duties include acting as the leader of your territory by managing a team of sales professionals, implementing and fostering corporate initiatives, maintaining supplier relationships and growing Veritiv’s customer base. This position requires a “take the wheel” approach for the entire sales process along with strong skills for intelligence gathering, prospecting to negotiating and account management.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop a team of high performers who grow business through new account acquisition and expanding share of wallet.
  • Implement sales and marketing strategies which will contribute to achieving the Territory and Regional objectives.
  • Conduct sales meetings, trainings, and account/pipeline reviews on a regular basis with sales group.
  • Set appropriate performance objectives for team members and hold them accountable for achieving these.
  • Identify opportunities and present solutions offered by the organization that meet the customer’s needs.
  • Create a personal network and represent the organization at business sector events to enhance the company brand.
  • Work with organization to ensure team members maintain up-to-date customer and inventory data in the CRM and identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Manage and report on team performance, assets (inventory) and budget execution.
  • Partner with the Credit Manager to ensure accounts receivable are kept current.
  • Maintain and renew a deep knowledge and understanding of the organization’s policies and procedures to ensure the team’s and own work adheres to required standards.
  • May be requested to perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge in Packaging or similar industry is preferred.
  • Must have strong leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure and adapt to sudden changes in the work environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, people and diplomacy skills required.
  • Good interpersonal and conflict management skills required.
  • 30% travel required.
  • Experience managing a team of 5-10 direct reports.
  • Territory sales or account management experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding or experience from a large, national or decentralized distribution organization preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce.com or other CRM is preferred.
Work Experience
  • 10-15 years of related experience of successful supervisory/management experience required to motivate and develop direct reports, as well as size up new talent.
  • 15+ years of related job experience.
  • A thorough understanding of distribution management (customer service, sales, purchasing, warehouse, credit, information systems, and logistics) that is preferably from a large, national, or decentralized organization.
  • Excellent verbal, written, people, and diplomacy skills are required.
  • Experienced in strategic management and leadership across company functions directing substantial resources over long time frames.
  • Experience of planning, managing and organizing resources within short/medium timescales within the overall policy framework.
  • Strong planning and organization skills are required.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Physical Requirements
  • A significant portion of the job responsibilities will require computer work that involves the continuous use of the fingers, hands, wrists, and sitting for long periods of time.
  • The position also requires frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds.
  • The position requires work in an office as well as travel to customers, suppliers, group meetings, etc.

Salary Range: $143,000 to $210,400 with bonus eligibility.
