General Summary & Scope

The Sales Manager (SM) is responsible for leading through Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values to develop a high-performing team that consistently delivers top-line sales growth across all categories. The SM leads a team of Beauty Advisors, Prestige Beauty Advisors, and Lead Cashiers, and is accountable for all aspects of the retail business except boutiques, including sales, service, and operational processes. The SM is responsible for Net Promoter Score (NPS) and delivering an exceptional guest experience. This leader focuses on performance (NPS, sales, in-store events), people (guest service and associate training), and process (standard operating procedures and compliance standards). This position requires a drive for results, a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, extensive product knowledge, and leadership skills.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The SM demonstrates Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following duties:

Performance
  • Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omni-channel, and shrink.
  • Drive profitability by identifying underperforming metrics and developing strategies leveraging company programs and resources.
  • Support store scheduling needs using forecast and payroll budgets to maximize productivity and meet sales and payroll goals.
  • Plan and execute in-store events to enhance guest experience and drive sales.
  • Analyze financial and operational reports regularly and promptly.
  • Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance guest experience and sales.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Maintain regular attendance and hold associates accountable to attendance policies.
People
  • Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team; address staffing needs efficiently.
  • Build an engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through collaboration and communication.
  • Create an inclusive environment that encourages growth and engagement.
  • Support professional development through training, coaching, performance reviews, and development plans.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enable continuous professional growth.
  • Establish strong relationships with brand partners.
  • Model teamwork and guest service excellence.
  • Execute the Guest Engagement Leader program effectively to meet business goals.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to dress code policies.
  • Use scheduling and task management tools to manage store operations and workload.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through standard operating procedures.
  • Manage inventory control and theft reporting.
  • Support continuous improvement and communicate operational needs and opportunities.
Job Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience
  • 2-3+ years in retail management or relevant experience.
  • Experience in financial management, driving sales, managing payroll, and controlling expenses.
  • Proven ability in monitoring inventory, achieving operational excellence, and leading teams.
Skills
  • Proficient with technology (POS, MS Office, Apple devices).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change.
Special Position Requirements
  • Flexible full-time schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Attend meetings and conferences as required.
Working Conditions
  • Mobility throughout the store, including bending, lifting up to 25 lbs., and other physical activities.
