Northshire Bookstore is seeking a full-time Sales Floor Manager for our flagship Manchester, VT location.
The Sales Floor Manager is responsible for overseeing the sales floor and bookselling staff, and maintaining Northshire Bookstore’s outstanding reputation for customer service. The Sales Floor Manager reports to the Director of Retail Operations.
The Sales Floor Manager must set and maintain standards of excellence within all departments on the sales floor, ensuring a consistent and positive experience for our customers and employees. This role directly supervises our bookselling team and facilitates their ability to complete tasks in various roles, leading by example at all times.
The Sales Floor Manager also communicates with our buying, events, and receiving teams to maximize efficiencies and ensure optimal physical appearance and organization of merchandise and displays. They are responsible for interviewing, hiring and training new booksellers (including seasonal workers), and advise regularly on any sales floor coverage needs. Applicants must be familiar and comfortable with computer-based Point of Sale systems.
The Sales Floor Manager is the primary liaison between the bookselling team and other company personnel, and must use this position to ensure clear communication about sales goals and new initiatives to booksellers, as well as provide feedback from booksellers to other departments.
Regular work schedule includes weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities include:
• Support, offer feedback, and facilitate management decisions
• Train, supervise, and mentor bookselling staff
• Direct bookselling staff on a daily basis, including task management, daily responsibilities and floor coverage
• Actively demonstrate exceptional customer service
• Ensure optimal sales floor appearance at all times • Provide hosting and bookseller team support for author and special events • Promote Northshire Member Rewards and other programs and initiatives
• Create and manage the sales floor schedule, including time off requests, documenting absences and finding coverage when necessary
• Interview and hire new booksellers
• Ensure staff compliance with guidelines, procedures, and policies
• Provide assistance and feedback on store policies, new initiatives, programs and ideas
• Address employee issues in a timely and effective manner, documenting issues consistently and clearly
• Communicate regularly with ownership on staff performance, both as a group and individually
• Maintain awareness of sales goals (daily and otherwise) and continually look for ways to improve store performance and the customer experience • Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
• 3+ years retail management experience
• Collaboration and conflict resolution skills
• Ability to create systems and processes and delegate tasks
• Excellent time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to act as both a supervisor and as part of a larger team
• Ability to lift 40 pounds or more
• Availability to work flexible hours - nights, weekends and holidays will be required
• Experience with payroll and Point of Sale software (ADP and iMRCHNT preferred)
• Proficiency with Google Workspace
Job Type: Full-time - 40 Hours per week
Compensation: Starting at $20/hr commensurate with experience
