Job description

Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The salary or hourly range for this position is $21.05/hr. - $27.76/hr. Please note the realized minimum pay for this position will be $25/hr., steps less than $25/hr. will include an additional amount elevating to $25/hr.

Job Closing Date

Review of applications will occur as openings become available. Candidates will be selected for temporary employment in various departments as positions become available. This position is reopened every six months so please re-apply if you remain interested in the position. This position will close on 12/31/2026.

About The Job

The limited appointment Storekeeper will be trained to supervise the sales floor and the student employees assigned to work there. Duties include cashiering, sales floor maintenance, student staff supervision, and inventory control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision to student staff on the sales floor, including delegation of duties, problem solving and conflict resolution, and monitoring performance.
  • Ensure excellent customer service and first rate floor maintenance, including arranging displays, and ensuring that the sales floor is clean and visually appealing at all times.
  • Process sales and returns in the POS system, creating and processing departmental recharges, cash handling – including providing change for cashiers.
  • Prepare purchase orders; may obtain sourcing and pricing information.
  • Assist with ordering of convenience merchandise, such as weekly food orders.
  • Perform opening and closing duties as a key holder of the campus store, including counting registers down at the end of the day and ensuring that student staff complete closing cleaning procedures.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Some college education is preferred.
  • Experience in a retail setting and customer service experience.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Active listening and time management skills.
