Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington is seeking a retail team member to provide friendly, professional service to customers, ring up purchases, and keep the sales floor organized. You will assist shoppers, answer questions, and help maintain store cleanliness and appearance.

In this role you will handle cash with accuracy, restock merchandise promptly, and support daily store operations in a collaborative, community-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate with customers and GGW associates.
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all customers.
• Ability to settle customer complaints.
• Ability to perform basic math skills.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods (up to 7 hours per 8-hour shift).
• Ability to bend and lift up to 40 pounds frequently.
• Basic working knowledge of computer applications and the internet.

Responsibilities

• Provides professional and courteous service to customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• Ensures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner.
• Rings items accurately on the register and handles cash.
• Maintains knowledge of merchandise and assists customers with selections.
• Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly and maintains a clean appearance.
• Maintains familiarity with store security procedures and safeguards the register area.
• Performs general housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping, and dusting.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• 1. Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• 2. Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner
• 3. Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register
• 4. Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include but is not limited to making change, operate and maintain the cash register, check and charge card machine, and use of a calculator
• 5. Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer’s questions courteously and promptly
• 6. Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly (racks, shelves, bins, and hangers) and assists customers with purchase selections.
• 7. Maintains clean professional appearance

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• 1. Maintain an orderly and clean register area
• 3. Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and exercise security practices when necessary
• 4. Perform general housekeeping responsibilities to include: store upkeep duties as needed to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting (including restrooms and dressing rooms)
• 5. Perform other duties as assigned by management

Preferred Qualifications

• 2. High School Diploma or equivalent
• 3. Previous experience working in a retail environment
• 4. Excellent customer service related skills
• 5. Working knowledge of a cash register
• 6. Multilingual with complete fluency in English
