Job summary

Jobtailor in Houston seeks an electrical/mechanical engineer focused on medium voltage drives and motor systems to develop technical specifications and competitive proposals for large orders. You will build client and supplier relationships, prepare RFQ-ready technical documentation, and guide cross-functional teams through complex cost analyses.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering.
  • 2 years of systems or application engineering experience in medium voltage drives and motor systems.
  • Demonstrated success as a contributing member of a project team.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal/external contacts.
  • Innovative problem-solving capabilities and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 40% and internationally up to 10%.
  • 4+ years of systems or application engineering experience in MV drives and motor systems (>10MW preferred).
  • Client-facing, sales or marketing experience is a plus.
  • Fluency in languages of markets served is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate technical specifications to support large electric motor and drive system orders.
  • Create a network of technical evaluator relationships to build a pipeline of potential business.
  • Prepare specifications for fixed and adjustable speed motors and AC/DC drive systems for RFQ requirements.
  • Lead technical and commercial proposal development for small projects.
  • Provide technical guidance in preparation, review, and final commercial proposal generation.
  • Prepare detailed cost elements for the technical specification.
  • Prepare specifications for required components.
  • Design competitive technical approaches to resolve client issues.
  • Evaluate supplier proposals to identify best technical and economical solution.
  • Identify enhanced product or service feature needs from clients.
  • Feedback product and service deficiencies to management for improvement.
  • Review brochures for technical accuracy.
  • Identify and suggest new products/applications to drive growth.
  • Monitor industry trends for new features.
  • Track competitor offerings and provide analyses to commercial/R&D teams.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at technical conferences and client sites.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Prepare timely and accurate technical specifications to support large electric motor and drive system orders in the designated markets to support the detailed cost analysis for all specifications
  • Create a network of technical evaluator relationships with clients and vendors to build a pipeline of potential business within designated markets
  • Prepare technical specifications for fixed and adjustable speed motors and AC/DC drive systems to meet clients’ Request for Quote (RFQ) requirements and to effectively communicate these requirements to the clients and internal engineering team
  • Lead technical and commercial proposal development for small projects with limited supervision
  • Provide technical guidance in the preparation, review, and final commercial proposal generation to client
  • Prepare detailed cost elements for the technical specification
  • Prepare specifications for required components
  • Design competitive and viable technical approaches to resolve client issues
  • Evaluate supplier proposals to determine the best technical and most economical solution for the application
  • Identify enhanced product or service feature needs by soliciting feedback from clients
  • Feedback product and service deficiencies to business unit management for continuous improvement
  • Review brochures for technical accuracy
  • Identify and suggest new products and applications to drive business growth
  • Monitor industry trends to recommend new product and service features

  • Prepare and deliver presentations at technical conferences and meetings with clients, at client sites as necessary or assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent via education and/or work experience
  • 2 years systems or application engineering experience in medium voltage drives and motor systems
  • Demonstrated success as contributing member in project team
  • Demonstrated successful and positive leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts
  • Demonstrated innovative problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated presentation skills
  • Availability to travel domestically frequently, up to 40%, and internationally occasionally, up to 10%, with limited notice
  • 4 or more years systems or application engineering experience in the medium voltage drives and motor systems with ratings over 10MW (preferred)
  • Demonstrated success in client facing, sales or marketing related assignments (preferred)
  • Fluency in languages of markets served or assigned (preferred)
