Job summary

Compass Systems is seeking a Sales Application Engineer who will provide technical support through system design and quotation generation for sales reps and customers. This full-time role is based at the Compass Systems headquarters in Barberton, OH and reports to the PPC Sales Manager.

You will collaborate with sales, engineering, and external customers to design engineered solutions, prepare quotations, and help drive successful project executions while traveling to customer sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline; accredited four-year college/university.
• 2+ years of related experience; combination of education & experience may be considered.
• Comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment and self-starter.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills.
• Strong mechanical aptitude; project management and analytical skills.
• Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor; knowledge of mechanical and electrical design/calculations.
• Knowledge of pneumatics helpful; JobBoss (ERP) and MS Office tools required.

Responsibilities

• Design engineered solutions that meet customers’ unique needs in collaboration with sales and engineering teams.
• Develop and prepare quotations by reviewing plans, system schematics, and customer specifications.
• Coordinate with outside vendors to develop system designs.
• Propose changes to equipment or processes to reduce costs or improve operations.
• Prepare sales engineering reports by collecting and summarizing information and trends.
• Travel with sales representatives or to customer sites as necessary.

Role specification for Sales Application Engineer

• This person will be primarily responsible for providing technical support in the form of system design and generating project quotations for our sales representatives, external customers and sales staff.
• This is a full-time role and will be reporting to the PPC Sales Manager.
• This role will work out of the Compass Systems Headquarters in Barberton, OH.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with sales representatives, external customers, and internal engineering teams to design engineered solutions that meet customers’ unique needs
• Develop and prepare quotations by reviewing plans, system schematics, customer specifications, and other customer documents
• Work with outside vendors to develop system designs
• Draw up or propose changes in equipment, processes, or use of products which would result in cost reduction or improvement in operations
• Prepare sales engineering reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing sales information and engineering and application trends.
• Travel with sales representative and/or to customer sites as necessary

Education and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline from an accredited four-year college or university
• 2 or more years of related experience
• A combination of education & experience may be considered in lieu of degree
• Comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment / self-starter
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Project management and analytical skills
• A working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical design and calculations
• Knowledge of pneumatics, including volumetric flow rate and pressure, is helpful
• Requires knowledge of systems and software necessary to perform job function such as JobBoss(ERP System), MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint

Preferred

• Automotive and/or Paper Industry experience
• Mechanical aptitude
• Ability to read engineering prints
• Experience with Pneumatic & Mechanical conveyors, Fans and Pressure Blowers, Diverters and Loadout Systems, Dust Collection Systems, Balers
